The Dolphin Watch Alliance recently led two training sessions for the newly appointed Red Sea National Park rangers and researchers. The sessions focused strongly on the Code of Conduct for sustainable dolphin encounters.
The sessions included theory and practical training in observing and understanding the behaviour of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, identifying their key resting habitats and learning how to minimise stress and disturbance during human interactions.
These dolphins use specific reef sites to sleep and socialise during the day, so it is crucial to protect these areas from excessive tourism and boat traffic. At night, the dolphins hunt, which highlights the importance of undisturbed rest during the day.
The new rangers are now better equipped to patrol the area, engage with the public and ensure that dolphin watching is conducted in a responsible manner, in line with the established Code of Conduct.
We’re proud to support Red Sea National Parks in building a stronger, more informed ranger force for marine conservation.
