In autumn 2023, we had the pleasure of welcoming the video team from ZDF / 3SAT in Egypt. They filmed for the ZDF / 3SAT Nano documentary titled «Who Owns the Sea?».

The documentary explores the critical question of who owns the oceans and how they are managed in times of increasing environmental pressures. The program addresses the growing environmental issues facing the seas, such as pollution, overfishing, and the impacts of climate change. It emphasizes the urgency of protecting the oceans, which are crucial for regulating the global climate and preserving biodiversity.

The film discusses how mass tourism, particularly in regions like Egypt, affects dolphin populations. It specifically examines how dolphins in the Red Sea are impacted by tourism, which disrupts their natural behavior, especially in areas where dolphin-watching and swimming with dolphins’ activities are popular. The documentary highlights conservation efforts and showcases organizations like the Dolphin Watch Alliance, which is actively involved in researching and protecting dolphin habitats. This includes promoting guidelines for responsible dolphin encounters to reduce stress on these intelligent creatures and preserve their natural environment.
