Our team from the Dolphin Watch Alliance had the pleasure of spending a day at sea together with the Red Sea Yachting School. This excursion was part of a week-long training course we conducted with aspiring captains. The programme included both theoretical sessions and interactive activities on land, as well as practical exercises at sea – all designed to share knowledge about marine conservation, dolphin behaviour, and responsible practices on the water.

During the day at sea, the focus was on raising awareness – particularly on how to behave respectfully when dolphins are nearby. Together, we discussed the importance of keeping proper distances, reducing speed, and observing without interfering with the animals’ natural behaviour. Every step towards better understanding helps minimise disturbance and gives dolphins the space they need.

Protecting dolphins starts with education and awareness. It was inspiring to see how engaged and eager the students were – from theory to practice. Their enthusiasm shows that the next generation of captains is ready to take responsibility for protecting marine life.

Seeing such commitment among young people gives us hope for the future of dolphins in the Red Sea.
